Not sure this is only about 'Ball Tampering'..

The last 24 hours have been the worst for the game of cricket in the recent past. Steven Smith and Cameron Bancroft confessed it all in the press conference after the end of day three's play. Young Australian opener who was just finding his feet in international cricket was found trying to change the condition of the ball with a foreign object which was later found out to be a sticky tape attached with some granules from the pitch. Steven Smith said it was all pre-planned in the lunch break and the fact that leadership group knew about it completely baffles my mind.
Now a couple of interesting things to for me were that the game was virtually out of Australia's hands and there was no point doing such a silly thing when South Africa were 150-2 and 200 runs ahead. Another thing that completely blew my mind was the way Cameron Bancroft did what he did. Putting his hand in the pocket and showing a black napkin when asked by the umpires was another clear indication him panicking. If his defence is that he did know the camera was on him, he is completely nuts. No one can ever get away with any suspicious action now a days because of the amount of media coverage. Even in the press conference, Bancroft did not look rattled by questions as he answered them with quite a bit of fluency. I am sure those answers also must be 'pre planned'! Judging by everything, Bancroft's behavior was pretty naive and clearly he was doing it for the first time. Who does Steven Smith exactly refers to when he says leadership group knew about everything is a matter of investigation. But to my money, there has to be an outside influence on this otherwise Smith and co wouldn't have confessed everything so easily especially the 'pre-planned' part. Another aspect of it is that Cameron Bancroft is the youngest player in the side in terms of Test careers and therefore he is the most vulnerable for those people who want to make some cash out of cricket. In their mid 20s, they are grown up men and they know what is good and what is not. If found guilty of anything other than 'ball tampering' there should be a punishment as harsh as life ban inflicted upon them. Because as crazy as it is, Steven Smith and David Warner may be in line to face a life ban from Cricket Australia itself.
